April Davis Fletcher claims responsibility for several roles, which can make for eventful (and entertaining) days. “It’s all about my boys, though,” April explains. “Our little family is the most important gift I could ever receive. It’s a wonder I ever leave home!”
It is a wonder. Nestled in a small town in west Tennessee, a humble garden surrounds a stately brick residence situated on a quaint cove. While the neighborhood is filled with attractive properties, there is magic that sets apart this particular place — and that magic is the gumption of April Davis Fletcher.
April claims credit for designing, building, and maintaining her beloved garden in a town where many homeowners outsource their landscaping.
“Call me ornery if you’d like,” April admits, “but one of the forces steadily driving me in the garden is simple: I want the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself (with the occasional assist from my family).”
This endearing tenacity is on full display via the Fletcher House & Garden YouTube channel. While she shares both interiors and exteriors on screen, April is currently chronicling her efforts to revitalize some of her garden beds that have experienced neglect.
“This is real life. Projects. Timelines. I had to deprioritize garden care for two months, and those two months just so happened to be July and August (of 2023). The constant heat, the lack of rain, the delayed or missed tasks on my part — it all added up to sincere neglect. So here I am, apologizing to my beloved garden by restoring her in the areas where she needs it most, and sharing the highlights of it all on YouTube.
April hopes to communicate through the Fletcher House & Garden YouTube channel that there is absolute beauty to be found in the imperfections of life.
“I do not look like / live like / garden like many of the YouTube content creators currently in the home and garden genre. What if I can help change that? What is the worst that could happen, genuinely? It is a risk I cannot pass up. If one person experiences Fletcher House & Garden and thinks ‘Wow! Finally! Someone like me.’ — that is the moment Fletcher House & Garden is serving its true purpose.”
